Message	then you loosen them to relieve the pressure on them and ensure that even pressure is being applied to the part and then you re-torque them again. That's the procedure I've always followed and repeated twice for head/main studs, rod bolts, and flywheel bolts. For parts that aren't as critical, like dress up bolts I just tighten down once.
